Meet my new friend – Addy Walker

I intended my next post to be another part of my Pretty Shirts series.  But, since my last post, Christmas, New Years, and Valentine’s Day have all occurred and due to distractions beyond my control, I am still not finished with my Pretty Shirts.   So I must tell you why it is has taken me so long.

Well, back in December, I was Christmas shopping for my niece and went to the American Girl store, and…..this little rapscallion jumped into my bag….

she also brought along her glasses (she is like me and needs her glasses to see)….and then we went to Hobby Lobby, and she picked out this pattern for herself….

and then, I started to sew Outfit E…..I really like this denim vest.IMG_8178

and look at this tunic and leggings.

This American Girl Simplicity Pattern S0173 was really a joy to sew.  Since it is doll clothes, you don’t need a lot of fabric and all of the combinations are relatively quick to sew.  I should add that I attempted to sew the tulle skirt, without any success.  The material was difficult to manage, and I had trouble gathering all the material in the hem.

All in all, although pricey, ($23) this Simplicity pattern is a gift that keeps on giving.  Compared to buying the real deal at $30 a pop, it is actually a bargain.  The only down side to sewing your own American Girl doll clothes though is that you don’t get shoes with the outfit.  I am going to make another trip to the American Girl store-better yet, I will order some shoes online.  I don’t want one of Addy’s friends to jump in my bag.

Now, that you know what I have been up to, I can get back to my Pretty Shirts.  Hopefully.

Happy Sewing
