Here is what I am working on. Its a City Bag from the pattern from You Sew Girl. It is a nice size bag, practical for carrying and easy to make. Of course, there is a lot of room for personalization. You can add outer and inner pockets, accent panels, long or short straps, and more as you wish. Here is what I made.
This bag is the second one that I’ve made. Practice makes perfect, right? On this one, I purchased some D Rings from the craft store, and found some scrap leather from an old project, and voila!
I really like the overall look, and leather accents for this bag. The next time though, I will be more careful about planning out my straps. I will make them first, and sew the accent leather on before I fold the four sides together, (to hide the stitches on the back of the strap.) I will also use a stiffer fusible interfacing. The bag is not stiff enough. I would especially take care to use some extra support where the straps attach, to improve the bags lines. I don’t like how those “ears” kind of flap over.
I believe my next bag will be a simple tote. Stay tuned.
Happy Sewing!
